We exist to awaken and empower you to follow Jesus.
Our Beliefs
-
We believe the Bible is the verbally inspired word of God and the final authority for faith and life. We believe the word is without error, infallible, and God-breathed. (2 Tim. 3:15-17, 1 Peter 1:23-25, 2 Peter 1:20-21, Hebrews 4:12)
-
We believe there is one God, the Triune God, eternally existing in three persons. The trinity consists of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These three are equal in power, nature, glory and possess the same attributes. They execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence, and redemption. (Gen. 1:1, Deut. 6:4, Is. 43:10-11, Matt. 28:19, Mark 12:29, Jn 1:1, 3, 2 Cor. 13:14, Eph. 4:5, 6)
-
We believe God the Father is the creator of heaven and earth. We believe he is infinite in power, wisdom, and love. We believe that He is good, sovereign, and His love towards us is perfect. We believe the Father works all things to the good of those who love Him, His leadership is faultless, He hears and answers prayer, and He saves the repentant from sin and death through Jesus Christ. (Matt 28:19, Jn 3:16, 4:24, Rom 8:28, 1 Tim 1:1,2, 1 Peter 1:3, Rev 1:6)
-
We believe Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, was born of the Virgin Mary, he died, resurrected from the dead, and will return to Earth to judge the nations while establishing an eternal kingdom. Jesus is the Word, and He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through, by, and for Him. Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, and was eternally before all things. We believe that all things are held together by the power of his word. Jesus is the head of the church. God has highly exalted Him and given Him the name, which is above every name. We believe that every tongue will confess, and every knee will bow before Jesus the Christ. (Isa 7:14, Matt 1:18-23, John 1:1-14, Col 1:15-18, Phil 2:9-11, Rom 8:31-35, Acts 1:8-11, Luke 18:8, Eph 5:27, 1 Thess 4:16-17, Heb 1:1-5)
-
We believe the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God and that He was an agent of creation. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth, He will guide us into all truth, and He will tell us of things to come. Every believer is admonished to pursue the continual infilling and empowerment of the Holy Spirit for effective ministry. The Baptism (or filling) of the Holy Spirit is distinct from salvation. The evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit are both the presence of the gifts and fruit of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer. The manifestation of the Spirit is given to each for the building up of the church and evangelism. Believers are admonished to eagerly pursue the gifts of the Holy Spirit for the building up of the local church. The gifts of the Spirit are the word of wisdom, word of knowledge, discerning of spirits, faith, gifts of healings, working of miracles, prophecy, tongues, and interpretation of tongues. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. Christians should live in and walk by the Spirit. (Gen 1:2:, John 14:16-18, Luke 24:29, 1 Cor 14:22, Acts 1:4-8, 2:4, 2:38-39, 8:12-17, 11:14-16, 15:7-9, 10:46, 19:6, 1 Cor 12:7-11, Gal 5:16-25)
-
We believe that man was created by God in His image. Mankind sinned thus incurring physical, spiritual, and eternal death. Because of the fall all human beings are born with a sinful nature. All humans have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are deserving of eternal condemnation. We believe repentance is made possible by the grace of God in the completed work of Jesus and those who repent by placing their faith in Jesus are regenerated by the Holy Spirit. These are born again, becoming new creatures and are delivered from condemnation as recipients of eternal life. (Gen 1:26, 2:17, 3, 5:2, Jn 3:14, 16, 5:24, 5:30, 8:13, Rom 8:1, 2 Thess 1:9, 1 Jn 1:9, Rom 3:23)
-
We believe salvation is a gift from God and only received by faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We believe it was His and only His blood shed on Calvary that atones for our sins thus delivering us from eternal judgement. We believe that Jesus is the only answer to our depravity and the only Savior. All attempts outside of faith in Jesus and His complete work are in vain and have no value. We believe salvation is affected by personal repentance, belief in the Lord Jesus (justification) and personal acceptance of Him as Lord and Savior (regeneration). The new life in Christ includes the privileges of adoption and inheritance in the kingdom of God’s beloved Son. (Is 64:6, Jn 1:12, 3:14, 16, Eph 1:7, 2:8-10, 1 Peter 1:18-19, Rev 12:11, 20:11-15)

We believe scripture reveals several ritual acts which carry spiritual significance. The laying on of hands, baptism, marriage, communion, anointing with oil, etc. are example of such acts. These acts are mysterious and powerful in nature. We do not fully understand how a physical act can impact spiritual realities, but we acknowledge their ability to do so.
-
The Word of God enjoins on the Church two perpetual ordinances of the Lord Jesus Christ, reserved for those who are believers. The ordinances are the ritual acts of baptism and communion.
We believe baptism is an outward expression of repentance from sin, a visual representation of one’s transition from death to life, a declaration of the death of the old self, a declaration of new birth, an appeal to God for a renewed mind, and a ritual act that carries real spiritual significance. Ultimately baptism is a Christians’ commitment to live and die for Jesus at all costs. (Acts 1:8, 2:38, 1 Cor 12:13, 1 Pet 3:21, John 3:5, Rom 6:1-14)
We believe communion is a deeply powerful expression of one’s love for, commitment to, thankfulness for, and oneness with the person of Jesus through his sacrificial body and blood. Communion is a communal and sacrificial meal shared between believers to honor and declare allegiance to Jesus. Communion is the deepest expression of the Gospel declaring the atoning death of Jesus for the sins of all who come to the table. (Matt 26:26-28, Luke 22:19-20, 1 Cor 11:24-27, John 6:41-59)

We believe the church is the bride of Christ. The global church is a living spiritual body made up of all born-again believers united in a shared belief in the divinity of Jesus and his atoning work. A local church consists of a regional group of believers who consistently meet together in worship and communion. The local church is God’s vehicle working to extend and establish the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth. We believe God’s model for transformation is the local church, thus all believers should be committed to, in submission to, and serving in a local church. God designed the local church to testify to the world, pointing them to Jesus by loving and serving one another. We believe the church carries a responsibility to equip believers for ministry and maturity. We believe that no individual can reach their full potential apart from the local church. (Acts 2:42-47, 1 Cor 12:12-14, 2 Cor 11:2 Eph 2:19-22, 4:11-16, 5:19-21, Heb 10:23-25)

“For where your treasure is there your heart will be also.” (Mat 6:21)
We believe God established the tithe (10%) to enable believers to acknowledge that he is the rightful owner of everything we have, and that all our wealth and prosperity comes from him. Giving is an issue of the heart. A trustful heart can give freely because it recognizes God as the source of all wealth. The tithe was established before the law, was reinforced by the law, was confirmed by Jesus, was practiced by the early church, and has been the norm throughout church history. Christians are called to live generously. The tithe is the starting line for generous living. We believe all are made in God’s image. God is a giver. Christians are called to be givers like God. Our desire and hope is for all Christians to be blessed by God as they live and give generously in a local church. (Mat 6:21, 2 Cor 8:9, Gen 28:22, Matt 6:20-33, Ex 25:1-9, Gen 14:20, Heb 7:2-3, Mal 3:10-12, Luke 111:42, Matt 23:23-24)
-
We believe in the personal and visible return of Jesus Christ. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment, the eternal felicity of the righteous and the everlasting punishment of the wicked. (Matt 16:27, Mk 16:42, 1 Cor 4:5, 2 Tim 4:1, Titus 2:13, 2 Thess 1:7-10, Rev 20:4-6, 11-15)
Our Values
At Vertical Life we hold to 4 values that shape and guide this ministry. In Acts 2:42-47 we find a description of the early church that was effective in displaying, empowering and releasing people for Kingdom impact. In this passage, we see 4 values to cultivating a healthy church culture:
-
We hold to the Bible as the Word of God and the final authority. The Word is not just words on a page, doctrines to debate over or a tool to belittle others. We believe that the Word and the Spirit actually shapes lives and communities.
-
We refuse to act or go without His presence. We expect God's presence to be tangible in our lives, and to be in awe of the signs and wonders that God will do among us. His presence in our lives will not be something referred to as a past event or distant possibility, but rather, moving and working among us at all times.
-
We make disciples that make disciples. This looks like relationships that are centered on Jesus and a community that equips others to be change in their neighborhoods, cities and the world. We are a group of believers displaying the Gospel in all areas of our lives.
-
We value living in a Christ-Centered community. Life was never meant to be lived alone. We desire that everyone be part of a Christ-Centered community that genuinely loves and serves one another. We also value a community in which the older generation trains the younger, and the younger works with the older.
Our Team
The church should not replace you in ministry. The church should equip you for ministry. That is why Vertical Life was birthed with a mandate to equip people to follow Jesus. Everything that we do is centered around that purpose - to see you fully equipped to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, be rooted in the Word of God, live in Christ-centered community, and teach others to do the same.
